Angela DeRossett

Angela DeRossett started her homeschooling journey just two years ago when her son, Xander was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. During this time she and her husband of 11 years, Jason, had been feeling pulled to step out of their comfort zones with their two older boys, Harley and Jagger, and remove them from the public school system. With a new daughter, Milan, she was scared of what lay ahead in the new world of homeschooling but knew that this is what God had planned for her family.

Angela is currently working on her BAS through Dallas Baptist University and is majoring in Psychology as well as minoring in Biblical Studies. After graduating she plans to go directly to graduate school to eventually obtain a PhD in Clinical Psychology so that she may continue to work with children on the Autism Spectrum.

If you ask Angela what she does for fun she might get a puzzled look on her face as she quietly considers the question. She then might giggle nervously as the moment passes. It wouldn’t be because she doesn’t have fun in her daily life, but because what she considers ‘fun’ is outside of the normal confines of what society perceives as fun. All things considered she would go on to tell you that she has fun at home, with her kids, or, well, studying. When you respond silently with a quizzical look in your eyes she would go on to explain, “it’s a sickness, I know”.

All things considered Angela loves coffee, reading, and exploring new things. She particularly loves Biblical Studies and is known to read three or four books on the subject at a time. Joining ‘Heart of the Matter’ is a true honor for her because it truly represents the things most near and dear to her heart: family, fellowship, homeschooling, and Christianity.

Her favorite Bible verse is from Jeremiah: "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."
(Jeremiah 29:11) It gives her encouragement as a military wife, a student, and a mother.

You can find Angela DeRossett on her blogs, Memoirs of a Chaotic Mommy and Homeschooling the Chaotic Family.

    • About Us

With the lifestyle of home education rapidly growing, two moms, from the suburbs of Louisiana and Ohio, developed a friendship that turned into a partnership to encourage and empower home schooling parents around the world. The team now known as “The Amies” was formed and HeartOfTheMatterOnline.com made its debut on January 8, 2007.

This online magazine and blog is a website where all homeschooling parents, seasoned or new, can find resources, reviews, giveaways, projects, ideas, forums, unit studies, printables, and support from other home school parents like themselves. The writers are made up of some of the home schooling community’s most popular bloggers. Each brings their own passion and style to the magazine that features regular columns about: Teaching Music and Art; Learning Difficulties; Unschooling; Preschool; Homeschool In the News; Teaching Children With Disabilities; and more.

The Heart of the Matter’s purpose is to provide a place for homeschooling parents and teachers to find all of the resources they desire in one convenient location. With thousands of links online related to home schooling, taking the time to find good, relative sites can be difficult. HOTM desires to change that. With a site that is easy to navigate and pleasant to the eye, their vision for the future includes: a print magazine, teaching videos, online seminars and continued motivation.

Our product reviews are FREE! Our statistics show that product reviews and word of mouth advertising are considered two of the top reasons why consumers choose to purchase certain homeschool products.

Although we have a large team of writers that we sometimes recruit to help with product reviews, please know that the only persons who are authorized to request product materials for review on our behalf are: Amy S, Amy Bayliss, Karin Taylor, Marsha Drews, and Rachel Harris. If anyone else contacts you claiming to be with HeartOfTheMatterOnline.com, please contact us immediately for confirmation. Please do not release a product to any other person without our confirmation.

In order to have your product considered for reviews please email the.amies@heartofthematteronline.com with the following information: Name of products to be reviewed, Brief description of products (including age group or level), and Is it a hard copy or e-book?

Please read the following before submitting:
      • To date, we have published reviews or in the process of publishing reviews for every product we have received. However, we cannot guarantee that every product will be reviewed and published.
      • Review products will not be returned and cannot be used afterwards for a giveaway. Should you desire to provide us with additional products for a giveaway then we will be happy to host that at our site for you.
      • Our review turnaround time is 6-8 weeks for most materials, however, some curriculum may take up to six months of faithful use for an accurate and helpful review

      Blog Roll Guidelines

The Heart of the Matter is currently accepting requests to be a member of our blogroll and we would like to invite you to join!

This blog ring is a place just for homeschooling parents and teachers to find similar blogs in one central location. Web surfers can peruse this list without having to scour through hundreds of other blogs that have no relevance to homeschooling.

All bloggers must be in agreement with the following criteria:
      1. The blog must be written by a homeschooling parent or teacher and the blog must reflect that.
      2. Blogs must not contain profanity or lewd comments.
      3. Blogs must not contain inappropriate photos.
      4. The person who blogs on the site does not have to be a Christian. We welcome all homeschoolers regardless of their beliefs, or schooling methods however, we cannot add anyone to the list who belittles or mocks another’s faith or schooling method on their blog.
      5. You must place one of the following links on your blog to be approved:
      Please Be Advised:
Each blog that requests to be added will be visited by a moderator to make sure that it meets the qualifications before approval. However, if a blog's content changes to something that doesn't meet our guidelines and is not caught during random checks please report it to us.

The Heart of the Matter reserves the right to refuse or remove any blog that does not meet our guidelines.

      STEP ONE
To add your blog to our blog ring, please email us and include your email address, blog title and your blog URL.

      STEP TWO
Please copy and paste the following code (within the box) onto your blog.

As the blogroll grows, the list may take up a good portion of your sidebar. Some bloggers have found it helpful to place the code into a separate post. Another option, which unfortunately does not work on some blog formats, is to use a Flooble expandable content box. This script will allow you to collapse and expand the blogroll box just like we have here in our sidebar.

If you would like for us to place the code on your blog for you, please include your username and password as well as the URL to your blog in an email to us, and if we can work with your platform, we will insert the code for you.
