Be the Beauty That You Are.... QUICKLY!

I know that one too many times my husband would come home to find me in complete disarray; my hair bobby pinned to my head to keep it out of my eyes, no make-up - well unless you count the juice mustache, and an ensemble of clothes that don't match because I don't clean the house in "good" clothes for fear that I will mess them up. So, after a stark realization that I could fix this problem with just 10 minutes a day, I took action. Here is what I do:

1. Have the hubby call when he is about to leave the office/job. This gives me about 20-30 minutes to call a "ten minute tidy" for the kids to clean up the house and I have time to wrap up whatever I am doing so I can get to my 10 minute makeover! :o)

2. Change clothes. A nice t-shirt and a pair of jeans are better than a paint stained t-shirt and jogging pants.

3. Put on a dab of perfume. Wake up your senses and his!

4. Brush your teeth. You will be surprised at how much better you will feel.

5. Put your face on. My day to day make-up routine consists of a tinted moisturizer, eyeliner, eyelash curler, blush to go on the cheeks and eyelids, and lip gloss or chapstick. That's it. Less than a minute and I'm done. If you aren't a make-up kind of gal then just put on some chapstick and rub your cheeks a bit to make them rosey. Something that simple makes a huge difference.

6. Fix your hair. Just brush it, flip it over and shake to add body, and spray where needed. If your hair tends to get oily throughout the day then try adding a bit if baby powder to your brush prior to brushing (focusing on the roots) and that will remove some of the oil. If you have darker hair then spray the roots with hairspray and then wipe with a dry towel. The alcohol in the spray will absorb the oils.

7. Say a quick prayer. Here is an example of the prayer I began to pray before my husband gets home:

Father, I thank you for this wonderful day, the man of God that you have given me, and for the joyous evening we are about to have. I ask for the safe return of my husband and I ask that you would help him to leave at the front door any thoughts or moods that are not of you and that are not beneficial to our family and our home. I pray that when he opens the door to our home and sees me standing their that he will rejoice in the wife of his youth and that he will show me the same kind of love that Christ showed the church. I pray that I will be the crown of my husband and love and respect him as I should. In Jesus' name. Amen.

There you have it. My 10 minute, 7 step routine to being the beauty that he already knows you are inside. What are some of your tips? We'd love to hear them!

Wonderful post!! This is something I am needing to work on... my husband has been so patient. I have a one-week plan to get things 'in order' so that he can be blessed by my presence daily. (It starts tomorrow because today is the last day of the semester!)

I really like this idea- I tend to try to look my best when I leave the house but I have noticed I have stopped trying to look my best for my hubby due to him coming home so early in the day and I work from home and school the kids.Funny how God works I started a study on the book of Song of Solomon and it has also convicted me of renewing my passion and love to my hubby-- Thank you so much!

You know my gram gave me the BEST advice before I got married..."hon,I ALWAYS put on lipstick before your grandpap came home from work. It made him think I got all dolled up for him."

You know SHE was right..since mine works at home...I shower and put on a face BEFORE he is up...so even if I'm in "scrub the tub" clothes....he sees a "pretty face."
Those guys love to see us "try" for them...and they are the ones we'll be living with LONG (prayerfully) after the kiddos are grown and out...I want him to always know that I CARE...

I'm copying the prayer! :)
another blessing!!
love you girl!

My life has been SO much better since I started doing something similar to this a few years ago. Somehow it just wakes me up and gets me out of my blah moods.

Great tip about the hairspray on the dark, oily hair. I'll definitely have to try that... umm... yeah, like this afternoon when my hair gets gross again!

The perfume really is a great tip. Even if you're grungy, there is something about that smell that alivens your senses! I know when David wears cologne, I just love it. So I'm sure he appreciates it when I smell nice too!

Great tips, and simple too! Those are the best! My husband likes it when I greet him at the door and ask him how his day was, although I'm not always good about doing it.

Thanks for the awesome tips!

Thank you for this post. I'm going to try to put a lot of these ideas into action in my own afternoon/evening routine. I especially like that you pray he will leave inappropriate thoughts and moods at the door. I can't imagine what a difference it would make in our home if my husband did not bring work home with him every night.

Once when my kids were young, I was putting on make-up before Daddy got home (a rare thing back then). They asked, "Where are we going?". Even as young as they were, they realized that Mommy only put her face on if she left the house - not just because Dad was coming home. If they noticed it, I'm sure Dad did too. Quite an eye opener. Out of the mouths of babes . . .

You know I love this!!! Thank you for posting these tips and ideas! I, too, will not only be incorporating these ideas but most certainly "stealing" that prayer!

Thank you for sharing. Love ya girl

Awesome post! I love the prayer. I am printing that out! I would add to kiss that man when he walks in the door (if you can get to him before the kids do). My kids like to welcome him by chanting "Daddy's home, daddy's home...." and I have been known to join them over the years.

Thanks for sharing!
