365 Things to Write About!

Wonderful writing programs are available for homeschoolers of all ages.  Homeschool catalogs abound with amazing options for teaching the craft of writing everything from great sentences to full-fledged novels.

However, this year my family is scaling back on a few subjects in order to concentrate heavily on some key academic subjects that require our attention.  In order to keep up the writing skills, we are focusing on the creative writing of poems, songs, stories and plays.

Creative writing really is an art. It’s a practice that is learned by doing over and over, day by day.

365 Things to Write About is a great book for getting those creative writing ideas down on paper.

The prompts in this book are sparse, but that is exactly the idea. Written for older students and adults, this eclectic collection of writing prompts consist of one word suggestions at the top of each blank lined page ready for any creative writer to fill with words.

Unlike many creative writing journals written for younger kids that might need more help with a writing idea, this journal relies on simple one word prompts such as “Mona Lisa” or “tears.” The rest is up to the author to decide. Perhaps one day the prompt is “diamond” which inspires an ode. The next day the word might be “kangaroo” which could lead to a silly story.

Take time to enjoy writing and see where the creative process can lead. This collection of 365 Things to Write About will provide wildly diverse subjects as writers express themselves while developing critical creative writing skills.
