Book Review: Easy Homeschooling Companion

Someone who thinks the way I do, who loves her children and home and life in similar ways, recommended this book, which I ordered and picked up from the library.
I’m so glad I did.
It came along with me on trips to the beach, rides in the van, and visits to grandparents. It, 3×5 cards, and a pen were my companion for a while as I slowly read (I like books that I can slowly read!) and absorbed the wisdom of this veteran homeschooling mother, Lorraine Curry.
There were a few minor theological differences between the author and I but nothing that affected the down home, well written and delivered wisdom of raising children to love God and glorify God with their minds.
Along with my lists of books to order from the library that I gleaned from Lorraine’s book, and encouragement for our relaxed mode of learning, the message that God is the ultimate worker in my children’s hearts sunk deep into mine. How arrogant of us homeschool moms to put so much pressure on ourselves for all the responsibility of how our children turn out! It was an encouraging reminder.
So in the midst of your curriculum ordering and end of summer BBQ’s, order this simple book and take a few minutes to glean from the wisdom in the Easy Homeschooling Companion. It is so much more than the average christian how-to homeschooling book.
Hannah Hagarty is a relaxed homeschooling mama of five. Her and her family are big on the outdoors, big on family days, and big on making memories in everyday small ways. She loves handcrafts, iced lattes, re-arranging furniture and counts falling into bed exhausted a sign of a really great day. She and her husband make a home in upstate New York with their energetic children and a menagerie of animals. Hannah blogs at Cultivating Home.
