Hello! My name is Catherine from Adventures in Domesticity.
My husband, Patrick, and I have been married for almost 17 years and have two children, a 13 year old daughter and a 10 year old son. Our children have been homeschooled for their entire academic careers. At first, they were schooled by Patrick while I worked as a Family Physician. We found that homeschooling was excellent not only for academics and spiritual teaching, but also for making the most of my crazy schedule.
For the last three years, I have been the homeschooling parent since I quit working due to chronic headaches and frequent, severe migraines. My husband got a teaching license and is developing a math tutoring business.
We have used Sonlight for homeschooling for the last eight years and we love it. The literature-based approach to education works quite well for us. We take an eclectic, relaxed approach to the rest of the curriculum.
The last three years have been an adventure for me as I learn to supervise my kids’ education and take care of the domestic tasks of the house while managing my pain. Homeschooling has been a wonderful experience for our entire family, one that I love sharing with others.
When I’m not being domestic or schooling, I love to knit and read. I’m constantly amazed at God’s goodness to our family. What initially looked like a huge problem (headaches and quitting a job I loved) has, with God’s grace, turned into an amazing opportunity for our family to grow in faith and grow closer together. I enjoy writing about our journey on my blog as well as for Heart of the Matter.
