Free Online Resources for Home Education
Librivox - our family has enjoyed many of the free audio books available from Librivox. Right now we are immersed in the lives of the March sisters in Little Women. We read out loud a lot in our family but find audio books so enjoyable in the van, at home while doing chores or during afternoon quiet time.
Homeschool Share – We first used this resource to make lapbooks about health and nutrition. Each kiddo, from the nine year old down to the three year old, enjoyed the cutting and pasting and beautifying of their own personal book. I loved just being able to print out these great, creative resources without much effort on my part!
Free Language – Looking for a good supliment(s) for your foreign language lessons or desire to get a feel for a certain language before jumping in? Check out freelanguage.org. It is the buffet of beautiful free language lessons!
The Naked Scientists walk you through a load of at-home experiments to prompt science lessons and spur discussion without a textbook. This is a secular resource, but one easily adapted to any curricula.
Learning about composers? Use this free resource from Yahoo Kids to listen to radio clips about the composers, hear a bit of their music and find out what made the composer famous. Take a quiz on what you’ve learned. Have a local community college? Give them a call. Most offer free or very inexpensive concerts throughout the year and welcome homeschoolers.
Finally, are you looking for fun resources for teaching your kids about Valentines Day and don’t want to wade through pages of internet resources? Check out this Squidoo lense on the subject with links to great Valentines related resources on the web.

Hannah is a relaxed homeschooling mama of five. Her and her family are big on the outdoors, big on family days, and big on making memories in everyday small ways. She loves handcrafts, iced lattes, re-arranging furniture and counts falling into bed exhausted a sign of a really great day. She and her husband make a home in upstate New York with their energetic children and a menagerie of animals. Hannah blogs at Cultivating Home.
