Getting to Know Christine

Your family is…
full of my favorite people.
Name 5 homeschool products you cannot live without.
my Macbook, laminator, “The Well-Trained Mind”, netflix, and Rebecca Rupp’s “Home Learning Year by Year”
What was your favorite toy as a child?
I collected stuffed animals. My favorite was a black cat named Sylvan.
What is your favorite toy as a grown-up?
My Macbook
When you were little, what did you want to do when you grew up?
Become a teacher or a doctor.
How many houses have you lived in?
8- 2 NJ homes as a child, a dorm room and 2 college apartments in South Florida, a newlywed condo in Cincinnati, and 2 homes my husband and I purchased- one in Cincinnati and one near Columbus, OH.
Favorite homeschool hero?
John Taylor Gatto
Favorite Bible verse?
“Her delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law she meditates day and night. She is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever she does prospers.” Ps. 1:2-3
Are you an introvert or extrovert? How do you know?
I am an introvert by nature even though past jobs have required me to be in charge of large groups of people. If I had a day to myself I would spend it alone reading, drawing, writing or praying (or all of the above). Rarely does my “ideal” day include lots of people!
If you could travel back in time, where would you go?
I would love to go back to pioneer time. I know it was a hard life, but family structure and connections were greater out of sheer necessity. I have a desire to get back to simpler times- making things from scratch, doing more by hand, etc.
What kind of homeschooler are you?
We are classical/eclectic homeschoolers. We follow a Well Trained Mind framework loosely, read a lot of living books, add flexibility where needed and just enjoy where our learning takes us! Oh, and sometimes there is weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth when it comes to math.
Do you have an accent?
I am originally from NJ and when my parents visit I revert back to my Joi-zee accent.
Favorite dessert?
Real key lime pie.
What are you good at?
I am a classical musician by trade- classical voice specifically. I also am pretty good at drawing. I love pen and ink.
What are you horrible at?
Keeping a clean house. I also have no real knack for decorating. If I was ever envious of anything (which of course, I’m not!) it would be of my friends’ beautifully crafted homes.
Tell us something really strange about yourself.
Hmmm, that’s a tough one! I talk in my sleep. Once, just after we were married, I got my husband out of a dead sleep to escape our room because of the swarm of bees I saw at the ceiling. Only after we got to the other room did I wake up enough to realize I was dreaming.
