Getting to Know Patty

My family is…
full of crazy monkey’s! We have 4 kids aged 5 (almost) to 13. My husband and I have been married for 15 years. We have recently settled in Idaho after moving all over the world with the Navy.

Name 5 homeschool products you cannot live without.
1. Homeschool Tracker Plus
2. Workboxes–fabulous for keeping little ones occupied and for keeping things organized and on a roll.
3. Lapbooks
4. Manipulatives. Any and all!! for all subjects even. One of my kids is a Hands-on learner.
5. Office supplies. I love office supplies. Folders and binders and pencils oh my!!

What was your favorite toy as a child?
A Pooh teddy bear–it was a music box one and I always carried it around with me until the sawdust tumbled out of a hole. (I still have a soft spot for music boxes!)

What is your favorite toy as a grown-up?
My laptop. I love being able to use my programs where ever I am.

When you were little, what did you want to do when you grew up?
When I was really little I wanted to be a teacher, then I got a little older and I wanted to be a lawyer. I could argue anything to anyone. Seemed a good fit. But I went to school to be an accountant–not a good fit as I have mild dyslexia and it hits me the worst with numbers! But in the end, I did end up as a teacher–just not quite the way I envisioned.

How many houses have you lived in?
32 different locations in 34 years. OUCH!! I never counted them all. 12 as a married person the rest before I turned 19. My husband and I just bought a home and we don’t plan on moving ever again!

Favorite homeschool hero?
I’m not sure if it’s a homeschool hero, but my hero growing up was Helen Keller. She over came so many obstacles that she was inspiring to someone that really did face a lot growing up. I figured that as long as I could see and hear I really didn’t have much to complain about and that I just needed to knuckle down and just keep truckin’ along.

Favorite Bible verse?
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.

Are you an introvert or extrovert? How do you know?
INTROVERT! I am a hermit crab. I will do anything to be tucked away in my own little shell. To be truly honest, I love peace and quiet. When I am out with other people I am always feeling like I never measure up and I always feel as if I have to go further than I am comfortable with just to fit in and be accepted. I love being there for others, and I would do just about anything if someone needed my help. I do love writing though and getting my thoughts out on “Paper” and sharing my thoughts and Ideas. That gives me a sense of purpose. So don’t think I don’t want to chat and get to know others!! I love exchanging ideas and working on projects.

If you could travel back in time, where would you go?
My husband says I’d go back to the Elizabethan era. And I must agree. There is something about the timeframe that I just love, the ladies were ladies, the gentlemen were gentlemen and there was that certain something that made it all so intriguing.

What kind of homeschooler are you?
Eclectic. I have 4 kids and they all are different therefore they must have different tools to use.

Do you have an accent?
Well I suppose that depends on who you ask. I was born in the south and when I am around others with a southern accent, it just pops up. I was also in England for several years and it just takes hearing that accent to throw me back to England. But in all honesty, I have traveled and lived so many places that I have a bit of everything.

Favorite dessert?
Strawberry Short Cake! YUMMY!

What are you good at?
Pestering my husband! :) Or so he says!! I’m good at creating things on the computer–such as lapbooks and other paper crafts.

What are you horrible at?
Grammar! It was my worst subject in school, and it still is.

Tell us something really strange about yourself.
I come from a family of His and Her’s–but really I’m neither of theirs. I guess that’s the strangest thing about me. I’m pretty ordinary.
