Great article! It is so easy to get caught up in the extra-curriculars and then find your family has no time together. We have been there and do not care to do that again. Giving children the opportunity to focus on the things they love is a great practice to start.

Wonderful article! It's so nice to be reminded that we don't have to do everything. I love the ideas for nuturing our children's passions...the things that "make thier hearts sing." I love that! Thank you!

Yes! I agree whole heartedly. We do have to spend time with our children -- quality, focused attention-- to discover their passions. I think it's my responsibility as a parent to help my daughter try many things to find her passions and then give her what she needs to pursue those passions.

This is so needed!! Last year was my first homeschooling and I had my girls doing all kinds of things, not wanting them to get "bored" with homeschooling. Well, this year I declared that we were done with that! My six year old does not need to be enrolled in sports, she can pursue her interests at home and my 12 year old now has to choose and pick what is most important to her. She settled on theater, giving up volleyball (which she also enjoyed) to focus on where she is most talented and what she's happiest doing. We are home much more and all that free time is spent experiencing things as a family...I just love it!

Great post. And so true! My son loves playing pick-up sports with his friends in the backyard, and that's perfectly satisfying for me. I think the desire to allow our kids "every opportunity" can become an idol in itself. I love the idea of the craft desk too! I think we might do that for our similarly gifted daughter this coming birthday!
