Holiday Skills for Your Wired Child by Carol Barnier- 5 stars!
I confess that I have two rambunctious young boys and as little boys they have attention spans of about .02 seconds and enough energy to light the Christmas trees of the entire neighborhood. Any crowded event with them that is out of the norm is of course a challenge, be it a family gathering or otherwise, but I always just figured they are little boys so that is just the way it will be. Sure, I do my best to teach them good manners and so forth, but a lot of my training tends to happen in the moment at these types of gatherings, which of course is not the most successful approach.
Well, Holiday Skills for Your Wired Child by Carol Barnier really gave me a lot to think about in preparing for this holiday season’s festivities with my children. In actuality, this e-book gave me a lot to think about for any sort of event I bring me children to- whether it is a simple dinner with friends or full-fledged affair with the president (ok, so that last one isn’t real likely to happen, BUT if it were to, my children and I would now know how to prepare because of this book)! I don’t know why, but actually putting time and effort into training my children how to behave at such events had never even crossed my mind, before. Oh what value it would have though to practice with my boys how to graciously receive a gift, introduce themselves, or not declare how much they hate a certain dish during a meal!
In her book, Holiday Skills for Your Wired Child, Carol Barnier gives so many wonderful ideas for not only teaching your children good social skills but practicing them and then creating subtle, familiar cues to be used with your children in the midst of the craziness, that I am quite sure you will fall in love with her methods and not know how you survived a holiday without them! More over, she makes a topic that typically seems to be loathed by children, fun and rewarding. The book includes printable badges to bestow on your child after their successful mastery of a skill and a “Holiday Certified” certificate that any child is sure to love. There is also a cute and witty “ABC’s of a Holiday with Sizzlers” list at the end of the book that is sure to bring a smile (and perhaps a giggle or two) to any moms’ face.
In my opinion, this book has something for just about any parent, no matter where their children happen to fall on the wired spectrum. Whether you are parenting a child with Autism, simply have a crazy little boy, or have a reserved little girl who would never even dream of climbing your Christmas tree, I trust that you will appreciate this well-written book and glean lots of use from it!

Carol Barnier is offering two lucky winners a copy of Holiday Skills for Your Wired Child.
Congrats to Stephanie:
“My tip would be to not over-schedule, let there be time to relax and enjoy what Christmas is all about.”
Congrats to Jean:
“Sizzle Bop has been awesome in the lives of so many of us! Thanks, Carol, for bringing laughter to our insanity.
Blessings to you.
Holiday tip: The school work will still be there in January. If the day is falling apart, put the books away and bring out the cookie cutters. Enjoy the Spirit of Christmas without the need to complete a unit study on it. I like to believe that somehow, after lots of learning about sizzling kids, and after tons and tons of prayer, that they will be okay. Even if we don’t learn about snow while it’s snowing.”
Both winners were chosen randomly and without bias.
This curriculum was provided to me for honest review as a part of the Heart of the Matter Review Team. All opinions are solely my own.
