Homeschooling Take a Deep Breath–You Can Do This! by Terrie Lynn Bittner (Mapletree Publishing; 2004) is a terrifically encouraging and informative book for homeschoolers whether they are newbies or seasoned veterans who are feeling a little burnt out. I originally borrowed this book from the library and immediately knew I needed to purchase my own copy because this is not only an encouraging book you will want to read again and again for its useful resources, tips and information.
The book spans 28 chapters and 306 pages, including a Glossary of Common Homeschooling Terms for those who may be new to homeschooling. I wish I had read this when I first started researching homeschooling!
Terrie’s writing style is part friend and part coach. She shares her own personal experiences, mixed with research facts & then provides detailed how-to’s and coaches you along. Her chapter entitled, “Teaching Math when you can’t even do percentages” caught my eye and didn’t disappoint. I walked away from reading that chapter with fresh ideas and a new found enthusiasm for teaching math.
Terrie ends her book appropriately by giving a run down on the good and bad side of homeschooling. Because while she doesn’t think you need to be a professional teacher or genius to homeschool well, she realizes that homeschooling may not be for everyone.
For more resources & information including release dates for an upcoming book on preschool & kindergarten at home visit Terrie Bittner’s website.
