How Far Did it Travel?
Geography with preschoolers can seem a little overwhelming, especially when trying to teach them the concept of distance. Here’s a fun way to help them understand how far things travel and you only have to travel as far as your closets!
Materials Needed:
- a world map
- star stickers
- things with “Made in” tags
What to Do:
- Search your closets for clothing, toys, or anything that has a label. Don’t forget to check your counters and fridge for fruit to see where it has traveled from.
- Sit down in front of a world map and start reading the tags and labels from the things you have collected.
- Put a star on the map to mark the different countries represented by the “Made in” tags.
- See which item has traveled the farthest to get to your house!
This is a simple and easy way to make geography hands-on with your preschooler and make him more aware of the world around him. How far do you think things have traveled to get to your house? Spend a little time with your preschooler today and find out!
