Life Lessons

“Learning never ends”– that’s our homeschooling motto. But in actuality, it’s more like our life motto. We learn when grocery shopping, cutting underbrush in our yard, & even by cooking dinner together. This motto encompasses the learning of lessons too. Life lessons, the kind you don’t forget.
Here are a few things about lessons that I’ve learned along the way:
1. It hurts when you fall. But it will hurt worse in the long run if you don’t get up, dust yourself off & keep on.
2. Pain is real. Don’t ever feel like your feelings don’t matter. They do! Feelings are natural & you are “fearfully and wonderfully made” – Psalm 139:14
3. Past hurts can still hurt years later. Pain is pain; no matter how long ago it started. But God can cleanse the soul.
4. Pain you cause (intentional or not) can hurt years later. Be careful what you do. Try not to hurt others, especially emotionally.
5. Forgiveness is hard to do sometimes. It takes time & that’s okay. But make the effort with all of your being. Forgive as you were forgiven.
6. Not forgiving doesn’t hurt anyone but yourself. Cliche? Sure, but it’s very true. I’ve seen this life lesson first hand. The person that wouldn’t forgive ended up miserable. Let it go! God is in control. Go to Him.
These lessons are learned at every age. Young or old, life lessons are learned everyday. Some need to be taught over & over. Maybe you forgot & God sends you little reminders. Some are harder to learn than others, but they’re not so quickly forgotten either.
What life lessons have you learned lately?
