Nature Portfolio Throughout the Year (giveaway!)

February 2, 2009 by AmyS

“We are all meant to be naturalists, each in his own degree, and it is inexcusable to live in a world so full of the marvels of plant and animal life and to care for none of these things.”    ~Charlotte Mason

medsizenature2A few months ago I wrote a review on Barbara Shukin’s Medieval History Portfolio Junior. You can tell from my review that I really really loved this product. So when she sent her new Nature Portfolio Throughout the Year, I was jumping for joy. The Nature Portfolio is created in a similar fashion to all the history portfolios, like a very professional lapbook or creative memory book.

As Mrs. Shukin says,

I conceived and designed the Nature Portfolio as a gentle and creative approach to exploring the natural world. The Nature Portfolio is designed especially for the 6 – 10 year old group as an introductory living science course.

The book is divided up into winter, spring, summer and fall, which are then divided up to focus on various animals, plants and foods in the following ecosystems:

  • naturesamplepagesYards and Gardens
  • Woods and Fields
  • Ponds and Streams
  • Desert Lands
  • Along the Seashore

Her products truly do appeal to all types of homeschoolers and this one will remind us of the pure delight of getting out and exploring all of God’s Creation. This curriculum does a great job of incorporating narration, copy work, vocabulary and more into an easy to use study guide.

A few main field guides are recommended to use along with the Nature Portfolio:

**The Handbook of Nature Study can also be downloaded for free via Google Books.

Made of thick cardstock and contained in a landscape binder, this is a durable portfolio that will last for years. Please see this page for beautiful colored examples of some of the pages.

CONGRATULATIONS Janalyn on winning this giveaway!!!

We are thrilled to be able to give away one Nature Portfolio, a  $29.95 value. To enter this giveaway, simply leave a comment before Friday, February 6th at 10pm EST.

Awesome! Thanks for the chance to win a copy. I wanted to start doing a Nature notebook with the kids, Charlotte Mason style, this year. I bought them both really nice sketchbooks…but it’s just never happened. This portfolio might be just the thing we need.
