Organizing in the Hizzouse

Well, it’s that time of year – school is wrapping up and homeschool moms everywhere are wondering if there is anything they can do next year to keep school supplies from taking over the house again.

The state of my office/schoolroom is not good. I have so much stuff in here – knitting stuff, home schooling stuff, craft stuff, stuff I hope will occupy the kids for one dadgum minute so I can check my email…it’s driving me nuts. I have been trying to organize it, but it feels like I am shuttling stuff from one corner to another and back again. However, I am a big believer that if I could just find the right basket, my house would magically transform itself into a clutter-free picture of organization.

So in an effort to corral all the crayons, markers, alphabet magnets, stickers, and other random items that are all over the place around here, I surfed the internet until I found the perfect containers: stackable candy store bins.

They are fantastic AND they got here in less than twenty-four hours. I order a lot of stuff off the internet. A LOT. I don’t think I have ever received something that quickly.

Check the cuteness:

These bins have turned out to be one of the best organizational tools I have ever purchased.

They are clear plastic, which means they are lightweight and can easily be carried around the house on the off-chance there’s still a room without a stash of crayons under the furniture; the kids can see what’s in them which makes clean up easy (theoretically anyway); and they are small enough to fit on a shelf but big enough to corral markers and colored pencils and twisty crayons and all sorts of random homeschool detritus.

There are several sizes and shapes, and I think they would be a great addition to any household – whether you are trying to tame tiny toddler toys, notebooking markers, or a giant stash of candy.

Happy organizing!

Have you discovered an unconventional product to use in organizing your homeschool?
