Paint it like Pollock

There is nothing more fun for kids than learning how to paint in the style of Jackson Pollock. It is almost forbidden, the way they are allowed to slap and drip paint in any way they deem necessary.

Even the websites available are fun:

Or no mess whatsoever: Make Your Own Pollock Painting Online

For our Pollock we gathered different colored tempera paints, marbles, cardstock and a deep box. (The deep box is because I am no fun and won’t risk the big mess.)

We used little bathroom sized cups to put the different colors in and added a marble to each. The paper was placed into the bottom of the box and the kids used a spoon to drop the paint colored marbles in. Next step was easy–just rock the box back and forth!

My son was pretty proud of his!

My daughter, on the other hand, was HORRIFIED by the messy picture and cried despite the pretty pink cardstock I found for her.

  3. I LOVE this post Angela! I have not yet tried Polloack style painting, but you have inspired me to put it on the list. I am thinking of doing during our holiday break when the kids are looking for an activity and I am in need of a few extra gifts! Double the pleasure. :o )
