Review: Millie’s Math House

Millie’s Math House (Edmark;1995) is an delightfully simple animated educational computer game geared for young children who are learning counting, numerals, simple patterns, problem solving, addition & subtraction and beginning geometric shapes. The program is easy for a young student to navigate on his or her own and the animation and screen views are colorful, attractive and clean.

At the launch of the program the child will see Millie sitting on a desk with a bookshelf behind her. Clicking on
one of the six items on the bookshelf or the cash register next to Millie will launch that activity. The instructions are given verbally so this program is suited for children who are not yet reading. Navigation and selection requires only basic mouse skills and can also be performed on a laptop with a built-in touch panel mouse, although a traditional mouse would be easier for younger children.

Appropriate for preschool and kindergarten aged children the activities on Millie’s Math House will allow them to practice their existing or new math skills in a fun way without the noise, clutter and fast paced animation that is found in traditional video games.

In short, Millie’s Math House is a wonderful supplement to your educational games or existing math curriculum.
