The Book of Stuff

My son has a lot of questions. In fact, the other day he suggested I buy him a notebook so he could write all his questions down. Then, on Saturdays I could take the notebook and devote the day to research.
That idea is hilarious on so many different levels.
But it did get me thinking. Making a notebook where we could compile little bits of information was a good idea. He could refer to it whenever he wanted and we could add anything he found interesting. It could contain things I wanted him to know (like our name and address), and things he was always pestering asking me about (like the names of every. single. polygon. imaginable.)
I loved this idea so much that I got out my good friend, the Pro-Click, and set to work.
I made a page with the alphabet on it, because he is still at that age where he can’t quite remember which one is the “b” and which one is the “d.”
I made pages with the days of the week, and the months of the year. I printed several hundreds charts – one plain, one with the 2s highlighted, and one with the 5s highlighted. There is a page with addition facts, and a page with pictures and facts about United States coins.
I am still working on a page listing all the polygons, and I have some ideas about how we can use the book in the future – it could be a place for keeping spelling and grammar rules, math and science formulas, reading lists….all sorts of things.
We use it quite a bit. Right now it’s a good tool when he is trying to remember how to form certain letters and numbers, but it’s something I anticipate using for many years.
I converted what I have so far into a .pdf file. Feel free to print it out and use it in your home school; or just take the idea and make one that suits your family. I’d love to hear your ideas for pages to incorporate!
