Action, adventure, hardship, romance, forgiveness, triumph, politics, scandal..you would think those words were describing the latest cinema feature but those words describe the wonderful book, The Forgotten Daughter. The Forgotten Daughter is a Newberry Honored book (six grade level) written by Caroline Dale Snedeker in 1933. The Forgotten Daughter is written in the most beautiful language that will engulf any reader into its pages. The story consists of a noble Roman man, Laevinus, who fell in love with a Greek woman. Laevinus’ father was not pleased with this relationship so he informed Laevinus that his true love and infant daughter, Chloe, had died during childbirth. Actually, the child had survived and had been forced to work as a slave on her father’s estate. She endured much hardship as a slave and sought refuge in the stories of her mother’s dear friend, Melissa, also a slave of the villas. Later, Chloe saved the life of a Roman soldier, Aulus, who had been exiled from Rome due to his political stand. Chloe and Aulus fall in love but her hand had been arranged to marry another slave. Will Chloe marry Aulus? Will she and her father ever unite? You are just going to have to read the book.
