The Impossibility of it All

It is no mistake that you are a mom. And it is no surprise to hear that Motherhood is a hard job. And yes, there will be days where the task seems more daunting than you bargained.

But here’s the thing: the perfect place from which to parent is that place where you are at your lowest, crying out to the Lord, saying, “I can’t do this today. Will you be my strength and do it for me? I don’t know how to do this. Will you be my wisdom?”

His answer will be yes. And his solution will be immeasurably better than your attempt.

Don’t be ashamed to admit weakness in your parenting. There is a huge upside to being weak.

2Co 12:9, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Also, don’t forget that:

Gal 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

A more accurate translation of “by faith in the Son of God” is “by the faithfulness of the Son of God.” Isn’t that reassuring? We can live this life, this difficult, exhausting, confusing, mundane life through the faithfulness of Christ. He is perfecting his power in our weakness. He is working in and through us for his good pleasure (Phil. 2:13). As our understood need of him increases, his tangible presence in our life increases. Let yourself admit that need. And then see if you can agree with this truth:

“It is curiously comforting to know that your calling is beyond your capability.” -Powlison

This calling of Motherhood is beyond our capability. And praise the Lord that it is. Otherwise we would feel able to continue on in our own strength, never seeing our need of Him, and therefore never experiencing His power in our life.

Rejoice in your weakness today, and trust Him to comfort you with His strength.
