The Urge to Purge

Is there anyone out there that LOVES to move?  Show me someone that loves to move and I will show you someone that needs a hobby!

We moved earlier in the year and while I am excited about our new place and starting fresh, it is a LOT of backbreaking work!  I decided from the get-go, once again, we had too much STUFF, so in a quest for a much simpler life, I purged!  I then had a “Let Me Bless You” Open House for all my friends that have been such a blessing to me and Little Man.  It was so wonderful to bless others with my nicer things and know that I wouldn’t have to pack or store them anymore!  Anything that wasn’t taken by friends was then taken to Goodwill.  I was NOT taking anything on those tables to the new place!

Fast forward to the new place full of boxes to be UNPACKED.  I’m sure you know the emotions I was feeling and thoughts I was thinking as I stood in the middle of a sea of bland beige boxes!  It was something along the lines of “All I need is an open space and a match and we could live a REALLY simple life! “In the middle of purging, packing, moving and unpacking I have a tendency to experience being overwhelmed and to procrastinate.  It isn’t a fun task for the most part, but I have moved enough to know that it can be exciting because now is the perfect time to reorganize, streamline and implement long-desired structure to some things.

It’s interesting how God can use the current, mundane events in your life to teach you something though.  And this is one of those times.  It isn’t something profoundly mind-blowing but the perfect timing of a perfect lesson from a perfect God can get rooted in the heart and mind and make a huge difference.  Here’s the lesson:

Purging the extraneous makes room for what God REALLY wants in my life.

Simple, right?  For me, this means

  • the ability to breathe both physically and mentally without a lot of stuff around me
  • a clearer mind to focus on Little Man and the things God brings into my path
  • streamlined processes that free up time to spend meditating on the Word and spending time with Him
  • a deeper appreciation for what I am blessed with physically and especially spiritually (i.e., God’s immeasurable grace, mercy, forgiveness, redemption and making me new in Him)

What is God urging you to purge?  Make room for what HE wants in your life!
