Valentine’s Day Card Project

Making Valentine’s Day cards is one of those activities that are practically universal. Here is yet another idea for card-making with your kids.
It involves glue. Be brave.
Supplies:
- Craft Glue
- Tissue Paper
- Card Stock
- Pencils
- Paper Plates
First, cut your tissue paper into 2 inch squares. When it occurs to you that you could’ve gone to the store and bought a card quicker, you almost have enough squares.
Next, dish out little paper plates of glue for everyone, and fold the cardstock in half. Draw an outline of a heart or a bouquet of flowers or whatever strikes your fancy.
Put the eraser end of the pencil in the middle of a tissue square and fold the tissue up around it. Dab it in the glue, and begin filling in the outline of your picture. You can layer 2 tissue squares for a fluffier look – the glue soaks through both, so it works fine.
Write a message and sign your masterpiece!
Alternatively, realize that your handwriting looks worse than a 3rd grader’s; cut your tissue paper heart out, glue it on another piece of cardstock, and revert back to your semi-legible printing.
Oh – and here’s a handy tip: I have a round kitchen table, and an old crib sheet works perfectly to protect it when we are doing crafts. It fits snugly and doesn’t get accidentally pulled it off like a tablecloth might. If you don’t have old crib sheets laying around, check your local thrift store. If you have a rectangular table, consider using a fitted twin sheet or even a waterproof mattress cover.
